At our practice, we are dedicated to diagnosing and treating patients suffering from various causes of infertility so that they are able to achieve their dreams of becoming parents. In addition to the state-of-the-art infertility testing services and treatments we offer, Dr. James Douglas also provides Plano-, Frisco-, McKinney-, Allen-, and Dallas-area patients with laparoscopy and hysteroscopy. He has undergone extensive training and has performed thousands of reproductive surgical procedures so patients can rest assured they are receiving the best care possible with excellent results.
At our Dallas-area practice, laparoscopic reproductive surgery is a minimally invasive outpatient procedure in which a laparoscope, a narrow instrument with a video camera, is used to evaluate and operate on the uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries in the abdominal cavity. The laparoscope, which is inserted through an incision near the belly button, is used to check for endometriosis, adhesions, and other disorders that affect the fertility of a woman. Because of its extremely small size, the laparoscope eliminates the need to make large incisions and is safer and less painful. The recovery time is also much shorter. Other small incisions may be needed near the pubic bone to inspect or repair abnormal pelvic structures. The procedure usually takes less than one hour, and patients can be released from the hospital approximately three hours after surgery.
Laparoscopic surgery is used to improve a woman's fertility or may be needed in preparation for further infertility treatments. Dr. Douglas uses laparoscopy to treat endometriosis and repair or remove abnormal fallopian tubes. Laparoscopy can also be used to remove ectopic pregnancies, ovarian cysts, fibroids, scar tissue, and pelvic adhesions, as well as to determine tubal patency. Contact our Dallas-area practice for more information on laparoscopy surgery that is done at Presbyterian of Plano or Medical Center of Plano.
Our Dallas-area practice also provides hysteroscopic surgery in addition to laparoscopic treatment. Hysteroscopy is a minimally invasive outpatient procedure that allows Dr. Douglas to inspect and operate in the uterine cavity using a fiber optic scope that is inserted through the cervix. The procedure allows Dr. Douglas to diagnose and treat abnormalities in the uterus that may cause miscarriages or infertility. The procedure usually takes less than 30 minutes, and patients recover in two to three days. Because access is granted through the cervix, no incisions are made, making hysteroscopy a very safe procedure with very little discomfort.
Hysteroscopic surgery is used to diagnose and treat uterine abnormalities such as uterine adhesions, scar tissue, tubal blockages, endometrial polyps, and fibroids. Hysteroscopy surgery is also used to detect and treat abnormalities that may cause repeated miscarriages. Dr. Douglas can help determine which type of hysteroscopy surgery (diagnostic versus operative) is best for you.
Please contact our Plano practice, which also serves patients from Allen, Frisco, McKinney, and Dallas, to learn more about or to schedule a consultation for laparoscopy or hysteroscopy surgery.
