Egg Donation

At our Plano, and Frisco practice near Dallas, egg donation is an important program that gives couples suffering from infertility new hope. Egg donation is a procedure in which eggs from another woman are fertilized with sperm and then transferred into the uterus of an infertile woman, who will then carry out the pregnancy. It has changed the lives of many couples who have unsuccessfully attempted other fertility treatments, and enables them to create families of their own.

Who needs egg donation?

Egg donation IVF is a highly effective treatment option for women with poor egg quality or diminished ovarian reserve. Egg donation is also a good procedure for women whose own eggs are not present. These include women who have entered menopause or are undergoing premature menopause or premature ovarian failure, or who have had their ovaries surgically removed. Others who are suitable candidates for egg donation IVF treatment include those who are not responding well to fertility drugs, who have unsuccessfully undergone multiple IVF cycles, or who carry certain genetic diseases. If you live in or near McKinney, Allen, Plano, Dallas, or Frisco and think you may be a good candidate for egg donation IVF, please contact Dr. Douglas today.

Who qualifies as an egg donor?

Women who donate eggs have the amazing opportunity to help others who are unable to produce healthy eggs achieve a pregnancy and expand their families. Egg donors can be either known family members, friends, or anonymous. Anonymous donors are chosen through an agency our practice works with. Dr. Douglas works with several different agencies that can help pick the perfect donor for your needs. Egg donors are between 21 and 30 years of age and have undergone careful and extensive screening for infectious diseases, drug use, medical background, and more. Candidates must also undergo a psychological and gynecological examination as well as a family history assessment before donating eggs. Once the perfect egg donor is found, the IVF process can begin.

The Egg Donation IVF Process

IVF through egg donation is a complicated process that produces extremely successful results for infertile couples. During the egg donation IVF process, the egg recipient is placed on hormone therapy. Giving the recipient controlled amounts of estrogen and progesterone allows Dr. Douglas to determine precisely when her uterus is best able to accept the embryos. The eggs from the donor are harvested and fertilized with the recipient husband's sperm to become embryos. The embryos are placed in the uterus of the recipient through in vitro fertilization three to five days later.

Sperm Donation

Artificial insemination through donor sperm is a highly effective male factor infertility treatment offered at our practice. Like egg donation, sperm donation uses healthy sperm from a known or anonymous 18- to 35-year-old male. Fertilization is made possible by using intrauterine insemination (IUI), intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), or IVF. Because of recent technological developments, IUI and IVF using sperm donation has a relatively high success rate.
